What we collect, and why
Only what an order actually requires:
- Your name, email and phone number — to confirm the order, send an invoice, and let the courier reach you.
- Your delivery address — to deliver the rims. There is no way round this one.
- What you ordered and what you paid — for the invoice, and because tax law requires us to keep sales records.
- Basic technical information — the pages you visited, so the site works and we can see what is broken.
You do not need an account to buy from us, and we do not offer one. There is no password of yours for us to lose.
Card details
We never receive them. Payment happens on the gateway’s own secure page, and what comes back to us is a reference and a yes or no. Your card number does not pass through this website and is not stored anywhere in our systems.
Where your information is stored
Honestly: not in South Africa, because the providers we use have no South African region. POPIA permits this where the receiving country has comparable protection, and both of these are covered by the European regime.
- Our database — London, United Kingdom.
- Order emails — Ireland.
Our payment gateway is South African and handles card data under its own PCI-DSS obligations.
Who else sees it
Only those who need it to complete your order:
- The courier — your name, address and phone number, to deliver.
- The payment gateway — to take payment and to check the transaction is not fraudulent.
- Our email provider — to send your confirmation and invoice.
- Occasionally a supplier who ships an item directly to you, and then only your delivery details. They are not told what you paid and may not contact you for their own purposes.
- SARS or a court, where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Invoices and the order records behind them for 5 years, because the Tax Administration Act requires it. That is not a choice we can make on request.
Enquiries that never became orders are deleted after 12 months. Abandoned carts after 30 days.
Marketing
We only send order-related email — confirmations, invoices, tracking — unless you have separately asked for anything else. If we ever do send marketing, every message will carry an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
Cookies
The site uses the minimum needed to function: your cart contents, kept in your own browser, and a session cookie for staff signing in to the admin. No advertising cookies, and no cross-site tracking.
Your cart lives in your browser’s local storage, not on our servers. Clearing your browser data empties it.
Your rights under POPIA
You may ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete it — subject to the tax records above, which we are not permitted to destroy early.
- Stop using it for anything you have not agreed to.
Email info@rimz.co.za and we will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first — otherwise anyone could ask us for your address.
If something goes wrong
If your information is breached in a way that could harm you, POPIA requires us to notify both you and the Information Regulator. We will, and we will tell you what actually happened rather than a sanitised version.
Complaints
Please raise it with us first. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, which oversees POPIA and accepts complaints from the public.
